DIVISIONS OF PLAY

Peanuts

Tee Ball Baseball is for boys and girls 4-5 years old who want to learn the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. In Tee Ball, players hit a ball off a batting tee. The rules of the game are designed to accommodate the need for teaching. As a Non-Competitive Division, the primary goals of Tee Ball are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball, to allow them to experience the value of teamwork, and give them the opportunity to play baseball with their friends. No score is kept, no outs can be made and the last batter in each inning clears the bases! Games are on Saturdays with one practice per week Monday thru Friday. Practice date to be determined by the team manager.

Farm

Farm Baseball is for boys and girls 6-8 years old who are moving toward hitting a pitched ball. The team coach pitches the ball. The rules of the game are designed to accommodate the need for teaching. Putouts can be made at the bases. As a Non-Competitive Division, the primary goals of Farm are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball, to allow them to experience the value of teamwork, and give them the opportunity to play baseball with their friends. No score is kept. Outs are not tallied. Usually half of the line-up bats per inning. Games are on Saturday with one practice per week, Monday thru Friday. Practice date to be determined by the team manager.

Single A

Single-A Baseball is for boys and girls 7-8-9 years old who can hit a ball pitched from the mound area. We use a pitching machine as the players are not yet ready to throw a 46-foot pitch. As with all of Little League Single A is an instructional division. The pitching machine is used for consistency, so the players can work on building the fundamental skills of hitting and fielding. This is the first competitive division. As a Competitive Division, the primary goals of A Baseball are to create a fair and balanced competition throughout the division and provide a suitable vehicle for team and individual skills development. The score is kept. Only swinging strikes are counted. Players may be put out at the base. The inning ends when three outs are tallied or 5 runs are scored. The game is 6 innings in length. For competitive balance purposes, teams will be selected via a draft process. Therefore, it is required that any players who would like to play in either of these divisions must attend the player evaluations. Usually one game on Saturday with one weekday game per week. One practice per week on Sunday thru Friday to be determined by the team manager.

Double A

Double A is for boys and girls 8-10 years old who are transitioning from machine/coach-pitched play to batting against opposing youth pitchers. As a Competitive Division, the primary goals of AA Baseball are to create a fair and balanced competition throughout the division and provide a suitable vehicle for team and individual skills development. In addition to the rules mentioned in Single-A, players may steal bases. Balls and Non-swinging strikes are called. Usually one game on Saturday with one weekday game per week. One practice per week on Sunday thru Friday to be determined by the team manager.

Triple A

Triple-A Baseball is for boys and girls 9-11 years old who are continuing to develop their abilities in a competitive baseball environment. Triple A Baseball is Walnut Creek Little League's highest Minor division before moving on to Little League Majors baseball. As a Competitive Division, the primary goals of AAA Baseball are to create a fair and balanced competition throughout the division, provide a suitable vehicle for the team and individual skills development, and prepare the players for Majors Division play. Usually one game on Saturday with one weekday game per week. One practice per week on Sunday thru Friday to be determined by the team manager.

Majors

Majors Baseball is for boys and girls 11-12 years old who are refining all the skills they have been building up in the Minor divisions in this next stage of competitive baseball. Majors Baseball is also known as the Little League Baseball Division. As a Competitive Division, the primary goals of Majors Baseball are to create a fair and balanced competition throughout the division, provide a suitable vehicle for team and individual skills development and stage the players for much higher levels of play. Usually one game on Saturday with one weekday game per week. One practice per week on Sunday thru Friday to be determined by team manager.

Intermediate (50/70)

Intermediate (50/70) Baseball is for boys and girls 13 years old who are preparing to transition from 46/60-foot fields to 60/90-foot sized baseball fields. 50/70 Division allows players preparing for higher divisions and high school baseball to incrementally transition by providing the opportunity to develop on a larger field prior to making the move to 60/90 foot sized fields. As a Competitive Division, the primary goals of Intermediate (50/70) Baseball are to provide the players a suitable vehicle to transition from traditional sized Little League Baseball fields to fields that will prepare players for most competitive arenas of Youth Baseball such as High School.

Juniors Baseball

Ages 13-14. Real baseball with 90’ bases, 60’ pitching distance, lead offs, pick offs, steals  and balks, and strategy to go with it. Practices and most games are at our Foothill Middle School Juniors Field and are scheduled with the busy teen life in mind. The Division winner goes on to the TOC, and an All Star team will be selected from the group of players. Some players want more baseball, so also offer an additional program that will run concurrently for more games and competition. These players will have an additional practice schedule and will play in Local League Tournaments.
